What is HEIC?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default photo format since iOS 11. It uses advanced compression to create files about 50% smaller than JPG while maintaining similar quality. It's based on the HEIF (High Efficiency Image File Format) standard.
Why convert HEIC to PNG instead of JPG?
PNG is a lossless format, which means:
• **Perfect quality** – No compression artifacts, every pixel is preserved
• **Transparency support** – PNG preserves alpha channels (useful for graphics, logos)
• **Editing friendly** – Ideal for professional photo editing, graphic design
• **Archival quality** – Perfect for storing master copies of your images
The trade-off is larger file sizes – PNG files can be 2-3x larger than HEIC.
Will I lose quality converting HEIC to PNG?
**No!** PNG is lossless, so the converted image will have exactly the same quality as the original HEIC. Every detail, color, and pixel is preserved perfectly. If your HEIC had transparency (rare in photos but possible in graphics), it will be preserved in the PNG.
Why would I choose PNG over JPG?
Choose PNG when:
• **You need maximum quality** – For printing, professional editing, or archiving
• **You're working with graphics** – Logos, screenshots, or images with text
• **You need transparency** – For overlays, watermarks, or design work
• **You plan to edit later** – PNG avoids the quality loss of repeated JPG saves
What about Live Photos?
This tool converts the still image portion of Live Photos. The video/motion part is not preserved. You'll get a standard PNG image.
Why will the PNG file be larger?
HEIC uses advanced compression to make files smaller, while PNG uses lossless compression that preserves every detail. A typical iPhone HEIC photo (2-3MB) will become a PNG of 5-10MB. This is normal and expected – you're trading file size for perfect quality and compatibility.
Is there a file size or number limit?
We recommend up to 10 images and total size under 200MB. HEIC conversion requires more processing power than other formats, and PNG files are larger, so large batches may be slower. You can always do multiple batches.
Are my images safe?
100% private – all processing happens in your browser using the heic2any library. Your images never leave your device. No uploads, no servers, no data collection. Apple doesn't see your photos either!
Do I need special software?
No! Everything works in your browser. The heic2any library does all the work locally. No apps to install, no accounts to create.
Can I arrange images before conversion?
Yes! Use the up/down buttons next to each image to set the order. The converted PNGs will appear in that order in the download list.
